On to the Rhine- July 31, 2015

I've been without Mike's hot spot and wifi since leaving Cologne so these posts are coming in late.

Today we left the city and made our way to Kamp-Bornhofen, a small town along the Rhine River. We are staying in a castle!!  But more on that later.  First we have some sightseeing to do.

Our first stop is Berg Eltz. A beautiful castle owned by the same family for over 800 years. It was a fun 1.3 km walk through the woods to get to the castle.

We enjoyed our tour in English here.

Once inside, we could take no photos, so all I can post is this selfie we took in the courtyard waiting for our tour.

Our next stop was along the Mosel River.  We ended up taking a ferry from one side of the river to the other to walk around in a town called Bielstein. Talk about beautiful quaint "fairytale" place. We keep saying it's like being in Disney.

Bielstein

One last shot of Bielstein and its castle from our ferry ride back across the river to our car.

And now we head to our "castle" to check in.

The entry way. Our room for the first 2 nights here is in the peak of the white section of the hotel.

They fly the flags of the guests- here's our flag!

The view from our bedroom window.

Looking towards that window.

Looking out the other direction from a window in the sitting area of our room.

An extra canopy bed in the sitting area room.

Ok. We checked in and now it's time for dinner.  We found a nice place right on the river, outside to drink some local wine and eat more pork!

Our appetizer, it's a flatbread pizza-like thing with a big long German name.

Our dinners- pork steaks with two different toppings. Mike's is mushroom and cream sauce with fried mashed potato "tator tots". Mine is tomato and cheese topped with tomato sauce and fried potato wedges.

The sunset was beautiful tonight.
